The Haven of Grace was first established
as a ministry of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Ladue,
Missouri, to assist in breaking the cycle of homelessness,
dependency, and child and adult abuse.
In the Fall of 1986, St. Peter's Mission
Committee and Grace Hill Neighborhood Services in St.
Louis City started planning for a residential facility.
An existing building, which had formerly housed the
Neighborhood Health Center, was targeted for reconstruction.
The following Spring, in 1987, reconstruction
of 1133 Benton Street began.
The doors of The Haven were opened
in October of 1988.
In 1994, The Haven became an ecumenical
ministry, shifting from exclusive support by St. Peter's
to a broader base of community support.
Encouraged by the success of the residential
program, and in response to the need of former residents
to remain independent and continue community services
provided at The Haven, an Aftercare Program was established
in 1998.
Today, with generous support from
the community, The Haven has moved to a newly constructed
facility in the same neighborhood.
