It
is exciting to report that we at The Haven of Grace
receive news almost daily from former residents who
have successfully transitioned into productive citizens
with fruitful, meaningful lives. Our ten-year Aftercare
Program provides the formal structure to continue our
relationships with those for whom we helped in the transitional
program. And it is through this long-term contact that
we are able to hear about the successes of our former
residents.
While we offer basic necessities-food, shelter, and
clothing-to residents during their stay at The Haven,
I never cease to be amazed at how the spirit of the
nurturing environment that we offer takes precedence
over basic human needs. Below is an email that I recently
received from a mother who lived at this facility several
years ago:
Hi, this is Brandie and I used to reside at the
Haven. My stay lasted 7 ½ months, a learning
opportunity I will never forget. The Haven opened the
doors for me and my children. I am proud to be affiliated
with such awesome people. I have grown to love Diane
and Lisa who have been there for me throughout my journey.
I am now residing in Cleveland, Ohio with my children.
I am currently in school receiving a B.A. in Social
Work and working two part-time jobs. I am also in the
[midst] of opening a group home servicing youth between
the ages of 12-18. I want the world to know that with
the Haven behind you all things are possible. They sure
have been the burning light at the end of my tunnel.
In The New York Times bestseller, The Purpose
Driven Life, author Rick Warren intimates that most
people struggle with three basic issues in life: identify,
"Who Am I?;" importance, "Do I matter?;"
and impact, "What is my place in life?" It
is evident from the above correspondence that The Haven
was instrumental in answering all those questions for
Brandie. She knows who she is-a mother with children.
She knows her importance-she truly mattered to the staff
at The Haven. And she knows she can have an impact-she
will soon be helping others who are much like she was
before she came to The Haven.
Brandie's note reminds me that we are all driven by
our purpose here. Your support helps us continue to
change lives. Please click here
