St. Louis man runs 1,200 miles to benefit local charities

Larry Wolff of St. Louis recently completed a personal challenge to run 1,200 miles in 12 months to raise awareness and funds for three local children’s charities – The Haven of Grace, St. Louis Crisis Nursery and The Youth Learning Center. Wolff has personally supported these charities for several years.

“Aside from the obvious family events, this has undoubtedly been one of the most rewarding events of my life,” said Wolff. “One year ago, I did not truly believe that I could achieve this goal, but I put one foot in front of the other until I was successful.”

Wolff ran the equivalent of almost 46 marathons in one year – a time totaling nearly 190 hours. The challenge didn’t come without sacrifice. “I ran when it was over 100 degrees outside, when I was sick, tired, hungry and sore,” he said.

Wolff’s motivation behind the challenge is humbling. “I did not do this for congratulations,” he said. “I did it to inspire. So many people in my life have inspired me by facing far greater challenges than I have. I have friends that have been challenged by the loss of life, mobility, love, jobs and many other things. Each and every one of those people faced a far greater challenge than for me to leave the house and run.”

He hopes his accomplishment will encourage others not only to support these organizations, but also to achieve their own goals. “You have the next 365 days and beyond to achieve, to inspire and to motivate. Don’t waste your next 12 minutes, 12 months or 12 years.”
