New Group Takes Off

Dana Sutter

The Young Friends is a new group of Haven supporters that organizes fun, informal events such as happy hours, baby showers and mini-fundraisers. Currently, the group has five members on the committee, with Dana Sutter serving as chair.

The main purpose of the Young Friends is to expose new people to The Haven. “If we can get people in their 20’s and 30’s involved with the Haven, they will likely become long-term supporters,” said Dana.

“I admire the young mothers living at The Haven who are working hard to make a better life for themselves and their children. As a parent, I am interested in any programs that will help these young women develop good parenting skills that they may or may not have been exposed to when they were children,” explained Dana. With these feelings, one of the Young Friend’s next goals is to set up a bookcase at The Haven, and fill it with children’s books donated by people who attend the events.

The last Young Friends event took place on Thursday, October 18th from 5 –10 PM at Il Vicino restaurant in Clayton, 41 S. Central Ave. All guest that mentioned The Haven had 15% of the dinner bill donated to The Haven of Grace. For future Young Friends events, please check The Haven website.

Executive Director's Corner

Diane Berry,
Executive Director

Dear Friends,

I never cease to be amazed at how the spirit of the nurturing environment The Haven offers takes precedence over basic human needs. By providing a full-circle holistic approach to repairing lives and creating healthy families on a campus setting, The Haven now presents the opportunity for 22 women and their children to learn from the people they love. Former resident LaTonya’s note below reminds me of the importance of The Haven’s dedication to the long-term solutions to the problem of homelessness in this community.

The process of creating healthy families will take an even greater effort to sustain the successful financial support The Haven has already enjoyed. With the combined operations for 12-new units of apartments and the shelter facility, this will be quite a challenge. Please continue to invest in the lives of others. Fill out the enclosed envelope or give online. Thank you for your generous support.

Warmest regards,
Diane Berry
