THE HAVEN OF GRACE LAUNCHES A CAPITAL
CAMPAIGN,
THE QUADRANGLE PROJECT

The spring and summer months were exceptionally
busy times at The Haven. Just as the Building and Grounds
(Design/Build) Committee of the Board of Directors finalized
plans for a major expansion of The Haven, land acquisition
efforts were also finalized allowing The Havens
property to include all but one small corner of a full
square block.
With these facts realized, the Board
of Directors approved the formation of a Capital Campaign
Steering Committee to make the dream of further expansion
a reality.
What is the dream? The dream
is for the construction of 12 transitional apartments
that will be located adjacent to the current facility.
A secure campus will be formed for the mothers
and their children.
Why? Because the path to personal
responsibility and independence is a process, transitional
apartments will allow women who graduate from The Haven
but need more time to grow into self-sufficiency to
be close by and simultaneously take responsibility for
life in an apartment setting. In an apartment, the ladies
will gain invaluable practice in independent living.
In keeping with the model of the shelter program, however,
women will have access to case management that will
ensure that they maintain the positive habits they developed
in the shelter, habits that build healthy relationships
with their children and foster aggressive pursuit of
their career goals, whether through college or employment.
The additional bonus is that when women and children
are supported in transitional housing, there will be
more space to serve more women and children in the shelter.
What are the campaign facts?
- Twelve transitional apartments.
- Estimated land acquisition and construction costs:
$2.6 million.
- A match challenge of $160,000 from Lee and Mike
Moisio for new donors to The Haven or donors who have
never given to a prior capital campaign initiative
at The Haven.
What is the progress to date?
- Commitments from 8 Foundations.
- Commitments from 9 Corporations.
- Commitments from 51 individual donors.
- Completion of the Moisio Match Challenge.
- Gifts and pledges received: $1.3 million.
- Continuing need: $1.3million.
Will each gift make a difference?
You bet! The Haven’s Success Story is spelled out dramatically
in the lives of the children and mothers, the ones who
are on the campus today and the ones who have graduated
and assumed personal responsibility in deep and healthy
ways as they care for themselves and their children
as members of the St. Louis community.
Please join us. This is an opportunity
to plant your gifts and have them grow and grow and
grow...for many, many years because of the women and
children whose gratitude will be illus-trated in the
new sense of hope and purpose that will define their
lives.
