Celebrating Our Pennies from Heaven

On Friday, April 27, The Haven of Grace will holds its annual fundraiser, Pennies from Heaven, at the Coronado Ballroom, 3701 Lindell Boulevard. The Coronado is long remembered by St. Louisans as an elegant hotel where luminaries such as Barbara Stanwyck and Mae West stayed.

Co-chairs Kathy Wunderlich and Tammy Lang as well as many volunteers on the Steering Committee have planned a wonderful evening of dinner and dancing. Entertainment will be provided by the 11 piece ensemble, Yessir.

This year, Pennies from Heaven is going to be a celebration of our women and their families. Each table will be named after either a current resident or a aftercare client, with a photo exhibit of that family as a centerpiece.

“Wonderful food and company is a given, but we hope that this event will develop an even stronger connection between those that we serve and those who have been so generous is supporting The Haven,” said co-chair Kathy Wunderlich.

The evening will begin with cocktails at 7p.m. Next will be a delicious sit down dinner followed by dancing. Included in this evening is a silent auction featuring: a round of golf at the oldest 18 hole club in the country (Chicago Golf Club 1892), a custom made fire-pit with all of the accouterments, a deluxe Cardinals package, tickets to Chicago attractions (including lodging), and many other unique and exciting items.

“This is the biggest fundraiser of the year for The Haven but beyond that, we want to highlight the success that The Haven brings about for the women and families that it serves,” said Tammy Lang.

Ticket prices begin at as little as $125 for a single ticket. For tickets or more information, please contact Allison Edghill at 314-621-6507.

The Greatest Gift

Taylor Haupt

How many twelve year old girls wouldn’t ask for birthday gifts? The answer is, not many; but Taylor Haupt happens to be one. Recently, Taylor overheard her mother, Board Member Melissa Haupt, talk on the phone about how the capital campaign needed more funds. When Melissa asked her what she wanted for her birthday, she replied, “I really don’t need anything or want anything special; instead of gifts, I would like my friends to donate to The Haven for the new building. Don’t you think that would help?” Soon after that, Taylor went up to her room and created invitations for this very special birthday party.

It’s clear that Taylor has high regards for The Haven of Grace. “ I think it’s a great place for homeless young pregnant women and their children. The Haven has helped many girls in the past.”

By the end of her party at Sky Zone, Taylor raised a total of $700 for the Quadrangle Apartments on the Campus of The Haven of Grace. In the past, Taylor has created bracelets and key chains to raise money for The Haven. Her acts of kindness are something that everybody can learn from.
