Hooked on Sight

Tina Vonderhaar

Tina Vonderhaar joined The Haven Board this past August. Tina’s story sounds all too familiar to other board members. She was hooked on The Haven once she toured the facilities.

Tina said, “After touring the facility and learning more about the significant role that the volunteers play, I felt that I could contribute in a way that would be more impactful than many of my other activities.”

Tina is most interested in continuing to make The Haven a place where people go to learn life skills and be held accountable for their decisions, so that they can become active members of our society. “ From the first visit to The Haven, it was clear that this charity was not a hand-out. The people that come to The Haven, do so because they have a need; but they must give back in their own way by committing to a higher standard than many charities. They are given the opportunity to learn life skills and make a difference that will last a lifetime.”

As a board member, Tina would like “ to be able to help with the business and human resources management side of this group to ensure that we continue to help young women in need by giving them a place to learn how to manage kids and work on their own.”

Help is in the Numbers

Liz Isaak

In the midst of spring cleaning, and looking for a place to donate her items, Liz Isaak found The Haven of Grace. In this process, she learned about the wonder-ful things that happen at The Haven of Grace everyday. “I was immediately compelled by the people and mis-sion of The Haven to help these young women help themselves and their children.”

“Providing these women the opportunity to receive parenting classes and practical life skills is so critical to preparing them for a successful life after The Haven, which also highlights one of the most exciting features of The Haven, The Aftercare Program,” said Liz.

Liz will be joining The Haven Board as the new Treasurer and also as a member of the Finance Committee. “ I am really looking forward to playing a role in seeing the Quadrangle becoming fully operational, even if it is primarily by crunching numbers.”

“The opportunity to help other young women make life altering changes and find the courage to give themselves to the promise that The Haven offers so that they can raise their children with confidence,” is what most interests Liz.

All the Right Notes

Rita and David Cornett

The Haven of Grace held it’s first annual Jazz on the Plaza event on Wednesday, June 27 at the Northern Trust Bank lobby in Clayton. The event featured live music from the local jazz group Beth Tuttle & Friends. Rita Cornett and Kathy Wunderlich co-chaired this event.

The event came about after a Christmas concert that Development Committee member Rita Cornett attended. Beth Tuttle performed at that event, and captivated the audience. Rita thought, “Beth is so warm and gracious on stage that it seemed like a good idea to include her in our fundraising efforts."

From that moment on, her thought turned into reality. Over 60 people attended this terrific event, and raised more than $4,500.00 for The Haven of Grace. Like all Haven events, please click here for dates and times. We look forward to seeing you at next year’s event!
